2022 Toyota Avalon Vs. 2022 Chrysler 300: Which One Is Right for Me?

Full-size sedans have long been the go-to in America due to the complete package they offer: Plenty of room for passengers and items alike, along with comfort and convenience. The 2022 full-size sedan market is full of cars that have all these factors, but if you want a choice of cars that exceed those requirements it will be narrowed down to the 2022 Toyota Avalon and the 2022 Chrysler 300. While both these cards check off a ton of savvy car-shopper boxes, only one truly has everything to offer. To give you a bit more insight into just how much you will be getting with either of these two full-size sedans, our Westbury Toyota staff has put together a short but informative comparison guide.

What’s Under the Hood?

The 2022 Toyota Avalon has two engine choices:

  • The hybrid 4-cylinder 2.5 liter (L) dual-injection engine with Eco, Sport, Normal, and EV drive modes capable of 176 horsepower (hp) and 163 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque.
  • The 3.5 L V6 dual-injection gas engine with Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes capable of 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque.

Both the hybrid and gas powertrains for the Avalon are front-wheel drive (FWD). The 2022 Chrysler 300 Touring only has one engine available: A 3.6 L V6 gas engine that puts out 292 hp and is rear-wheel drive (RWD).

In terms of mileage estimates, the Avalon has impressive ratings right across three (XLE, XLE Hybrid, and XSE Hybrid) trim levels compared to that of the Chrysler 300, as evidenced in the table below.

As you can see, when it comes to fuel efficiency, any of these three Avalon trims is a better option than the 2022 Chrysler 300 Touring, with the other 300 trims (Touring L, 300S V6, and 300S V8) having the same (or worse) mileage estimates.

Special Editions

Not only is the 2022 Toyota Avalon available with two hybrid models, one of those models is a Nightshade edition. Toyota’s Nightshade editions are an exciting appearance-based package that offers a sportier, more aggressive look with a distinct black grille, blacked out mirror caps, rear spoiler, and name badges. You’ll also get black window trim, door handles, and a black shark fin antenna along with black-painted 19-inch alloy wheels. The Nightshade Avalon is available in three different exterior colors: Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, or Midnight Black Metallic, and your choice of Ultrasuede or Black Perforated SofTex for the interior will complete the entire aesthetic.

Safety Features

While all versions of the 2022 Chrysler 300 have all the standard safety features you would expect to find, they do not have the innovative extras that make Toyota’s vehicles some of the safest on the road. In any version of the 2022 Toyota Avalon, you will find:

  • Star Safety System: Includes Traction Control (TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop Technology (SST).
  • Toyota Safety Sense 2.5: includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTW), Road Sign Assist (RSA), and Full Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
  • Safety Connect: includes a 3-year trial subscription and Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Automatic Collision Notification, and Roadside Assistance.

Toyota has always gone above and beyond when it comes to vehicular safety, and the 2022 Avalon is proof of that.

Which One Is Right for Me?

While the 2022 Chrysler 300 has plenty to offer, it falls short in some areas such as fuel efficiency, performance, safety, and lack of an aesthetic package. The 2022 Toyota Avalon has all of these, making it the perfect full-size sedan that is completely equipped to meet all your needs.
