Now that 2023 is finally here, it means a new day has dawned for Toyota’s Prius, and the popular hybrid car will be entering the new year completely transformed. Boasting a lustrous new exterior, along with a redesigned interior and a beefed up-hybrid powertrain, the 2023 Prius has been reborn but is still engineered to deliver what drivers have come to expect: efficiency, style, and performance, and all three are better than ever before.

New Bold and Dynamic Appearances, Inside and Out

The exterior of the 2023 Prius will captivate people at a glance with its sporty yet elegant shape which is clearly inspired by a coupe. The silhouette boasts smooth lines, a low roofline, and a wider rear end than before, all of which is balanced proportionally to give it an athletically urbane appearance. The new look is enhanced by the option for 19-inch wheels along with a choice of six colors:

  • Supersonic Red
  • Reservoir Blue
  • Cutting Edge
  • Wind Chill Pearl
  • Midnight Black Metallic
  • Guardian Gray

On the inside, you can expect to see similar changes, giving drivers and passengers alike access to a smooth, modern design complimented with ambient lighting and several high-tech features and displays. The changes to the interior were made to keep eye and body movement to a minimum while driving, which is why the new multi-information display resides on a mount in front of the driver in order to make it easier to keep eyes on the road. The touchscreen (8.0-inch standard or available 12.3-inch) is located within easy reach, as well.

Built for Performance and Efficiency

This version of the Prius shakes things up a bit under the hood. There is now a 2.0-liter (L) engine along with a redesigned hybrid system that will net drivers more than 50 percent more horsepower from the combined system. In terms of output, you can expect to see 196 horsepower (hp) on all all-wheel drive (AWD) models, which is up from 121 hp from last generation. You’ll also see 194 net hp on the front-wheel drive (FWD) models, which was also previously 121 hp. The maximum torque is 139 pound-feet (lb-ft) on all models, which is almost a 16 percent increase from 120 lb-ft from the last generation.

The LE edition in the FWD grades will provide an estimated 57 miles per gallon (mpg) rating, which is not only a new best for the Prius but also makes it the most fuel-efficient 2023 hybrid car in production for 2023. With the Limited and XLE grades, you will see the still-impressive 52 mpg, while the LE grade for the AWD versions will get you 54 mpg combined and the Limited and XLE will net 49 mpg. You can also expect to see more power in the AWD powertrain, with up to 50 percent more torque in the rear motor.

The 2023 Prius is also going to play an iconic part in Toyota’s strategy to move beyond zero in carbon neutrality and will be the first Toyota vehicle to sport the “Beyond Zero” badge.

An Exciting Change to the Prius Sedan

The newly redesigned 2023 Prius is still in possession of everything that people have come to love – not only that, it has improved them. Efficiency is still key, but so too is performance, comfort, and safety. As gorgeous on the outside and it is reliable and efficient, this new Prius is a must for any hybrid enthusiast.
